The time is the early Meiji period. Atori, has lived on her own since she was a child after her parents died. She has worked at various jobs and now works as a maid at a ryokan (Japanese inn), but her employers have collapsed one after another, and she has been cursed as a "plague god. One day, Atori is at an arranged marriage between two noblemen, and Ryunosuke Ozaki, the son of one of the noblemen, suddenly asks her to marry him!
