Synopsis

In the kingdom of Chiwa, eight noble families descended from legends hold power, each blessed with a unique ability known as a “spiritual force.” From among these families, the one who possesses the strongest magical power is chosen to become the King of the land. Long ago, the Amaha clan withdrew from the capital, causing a major disruption in the balance of power. But when a bride from the Amaha family was sent to the capital as part of a political agreement, order was restored. Since then, it became a tradition: the King’s wife must be chosen from the Amaha clan—a political hostage. Now, Owayuki, a calm and reserved girl from the Amaha family, is selected to become the wife of the new king, Ichihori Nariya. A cold political marriage ruled by strict laws: She is not allowed to touch the king, and may only see him once a month. There is no place for love or emotion. While Owayuki decides to bury her feelings and silently fulfill her duty as a hostage, she begins using her unique ability—to see and hear things from afar—to observe the king from a distance… and discovers something unexpected.
